Brandon Laan - Coordinator
My name is Brandon Laan and I was born and raised in London, Ontario, Canada.
I completed my undergraduate degree in Canada while competing for The University of Western Ontario Mustangs. While at U.W.O., I was the captain of the Cross Country Team and a gold medalist at the Ontario Track and Field Championships.
I decided to move to Hawaii to pursue a graduate degree while competing for Hawaii Pacific University. While at H.P.U., I was the captain of the Cross Country Team and named an Academic All-American.
The running scene in Hawaii has rejuvenated my desire to compete at an elite level. I participated in The Great Aloha Run in 2007 where I placed a close 2nd. I recently began coaching at Punahou High School, which consistently reminds me of why I began running in the first place; it's a ton of fun!
I am now in the midst of beginning my post-collegiate running career. My goal for 2008 is to run well at the 1500m and 5000m distances at the Canadian Track and Field Olympic Trials in July.
While I take pleasure in competing, I feel blessed to have the opportunity to foster an enthusiasm for the sport among those with non-running related careers as well as motivate the future leaders of our sport.
Angela Sy - Coach
Angela is a
self proclaimed crazed runner, especially
addicted to distance running. To date, she
has completed 12 marathons and is a member of
Marathon Maniacs. Her most hard core racing
streak was running a personal record time in
the California International Marathon, and a
week later, running the Honolulu Marathon for
fun.
Angela has been a physical activity educator first as an aerobics instructor and personal trainer for 10 years, and recently as an assistant cross country and track coach at Mid Pacific Institute. Angela’s “day job” is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Public Health Sciences, John A. Burns School of Medicine at UH Manoa.
Angela strives to promote the wellness of people of all ages in Hawaii through health education, coaching, and nonstop running behavior.

Markie Mark - Coach
My list of accomplishments are long. I have done 20 marathons, 15 Iron man triathlons, 30 half iron triathlons, and numerous other shorter distance races. I have medaled in all of the races, and still have time to help the homeless. Oh wait, my REAL accomplishments only count, alright. I have been with Chet for a while now, coaching the D group since I joined Team Jet. I have completed 7 marathons, a few Tinmans and Keauhou half ironman triathlons, with the idea of finishing and having a good time. That's what the D group represents, having fun and finishing strong. The D group has evolved into a strong group of runners who started out with no idea of what marathon running was all about. I call my self the "social coordinator" versus a coach, only because our running sessions are about enjoying the run. If there is no enjoyment, then what is the use of doing it, right? Learning how to relax, run strong, and avoid injuries has become the mantra of the group, so I hope to see you out there, if not in the D group, in one of the groups Team Jet has to offer.
